It’s a dynamic guided tour, also suitable for those who can rather move by bike than foot. The cycling guided tour is recommended for small groups (max 8 people).

Famous composers and Giacomo Puccini

Lucca has an almost incomparable music tradition thanks to composers such as: Nicolao Dorati, Cristoforo Christoforo Malvezzi, Francesco Barsanti, Gioseffo Guami, Francesco Geminiani, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani and Giacomo Puccini.

Music events were regarded as an important element of political and social life, at the time when Lucca was the capital of a small independent State.

The birthplace museum of Puccini, the Teatro del Giglio, the famous Caffè Di Simo: meeting point for artists and musicians, Church of San Paolino and San Donato: where on July the 12th in 1880 Puccini presented, for the first time, “Four Voice Mass” with full orchestra, on the occasion of the feast of San Paolino. The church of San Michele: where Puccini’s father was organist, the Cathedral of San Martino where Puccini’s family worked as organists, composers and conductors. The Conservatory of Luigi Boccherini. The Church of San Pietro Somaldi, where you can see a precious 17th Century organ.

To complete this itinerary we recommend to visit Villa Puccini in Torre del Lago where the Maestro composed Madame Butterfly, Turandot and some of his greatest operas. We also suggest to go for an excursion by boat on the Massaciuccoli Lake.

Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago: In July and in August an event for the lyrical music lovers in the open theatre on the lake, next to the Puccini’s Villa.

Le ville lucchesi

The villas are still one of the main attraction of the area and they represent a relevant aspect of the local architecture. The typical Lucchese villas are those that the rich merchant families started to build at the beginning of the 16th century.

Some of these villas are still inhabited and the owners will allow you to visit them as well as the picturesque gardens. We suggest to visit one of the villas and discover not only their architecture but also the gorgeous nature. This itinerary includes the tasting of local products: wine, olive oil in one of the farms in “Lucchesia”. Here are the villas that we offer to visit: Villa Bernardini, Villa Grabau, Villa Torrigiani, Villa Oliva, Villa Reale di Marlia
