Every Thursday in July : Two squares compared: Miracles and Knights

Visit of Piazza del Duomo, known as Piazza dei Miracoli, to discover the monuments built at the time of the Maritime Republic, between the 11th and 13th centuries (external only). The walk then continues up to Piazza dei Cavalieri, symbol of the Medici power in Pisa, once the seat of the order of the Knights of Santo Stefano, today of the Scuola Normale Superiore.

When: On Thursday July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th at 9.00 pm

Friday July 3rd at 7.45 pm – Dinner and Visit ‘Ghosts in Villa’ (Villa di Corliano)

Itinerary looking for the ghost of Teresa Scolastica and for a man who inspired Mary Shelley in the creation of Frankenstein. After the success of the last four years Fantasmi returns to the Villa in the splendid setting of the Villa di Corliano. In collaboration with Andrea Valtriani, author of the book Ghosts in Pisa who will tell us about his experience of Ghost Hunter and… well, we do not reveal anything else.

Interactive guided tour for children to discover the city

The group will be divided into teams: who will be the first to solve the questions?

Where is the dolphin in Piazza dei Cavalieri?

The guide will alternate the normal guided tour with the answers of the children who will have to sharpen their eyes, look for details, and OBSERVE.

Sunday July 5th at 10 a.m. Hidden Pisa

A tour to discover the lesser known places of the city, hidden, unusual corners. From the ‘piaggione’ to the stone of the crucifix, the conspiracies of the Gambacorti… Stories and anecdotes of a city always full of new stories.

At the end of the walk, the ASD Wing Tsun Team Burgalassi will offer the opportunity to participate for free to an introductory outdoor self-defense lesson (Duration: about 15/20 minutes)

Friday 10th July 6 p.m. The Campo Santo Monumentale

When the Grand Tour started, many people arrived in Pisa from all over Europe, but they did not come for the tower, they came to admire the cycle of frescoes of the Campo Santo of Pisa. Do you know why our monumental cemetery is so called? Eh, we won’t write it, but we’ll tell you. We will walk among ancient Roman sarcophagi and frescoes such as the Triumph of Death, by Buffalmacco.

Saturday 11 July 6 p.m. Galileo and the other scientists

Let’s discover the scientists who made Pisa famous. Galileo, Fibonacci, Pacinotti, Vaccà Berlinghieri, Donati, Fermi and many others. A guided tour through the history of the University of Pisa.

Sunday 12th July 10 a.m. Pisa and the aqueduct by bicycle

Guided bike tour (If you don’t have one you can rent it from Smile & Ride for € 19.50 – trekking bike).

First stop: Tuttomondo by Keith Haring, we continue then, through narrow streets and squares, towards the Scotto garden and then cross the Fortezza bridge and reach Piazza delle Gondole. Here is the end of the 17th century Medici aqueduct which brought the water from Asciano along the almost one thousand arches. We ride along the aqueduct up to Asciano and along some country roads. Return to the city and route along the cycle path around the medieval walls.

Saturday 18th July 5 p.m. Volterra

A walk in the city that tells the history of our territory: from the Etruscans, with its 4th century BC walls, to the Romans, with its 1st century BC theater, and then stroll through medieval alleys and towers that alternate with elegant buildings . We will discover the secrets of alabaster, the shell fossils set in the rocks of Volterra and splendid panoramas overlooking the hills of the Valdera, Val di Cecina … and if it will be a beautiful day, your gaze will reach the sea.

We get on the boat that takes us to the mouth of the river, in Bocca d’Arno. The river tells us many stories, it tells us of the ships that sailed its waters, of forgotten heroes, love stories and mullets jumped from the fishermen’s nets.

Friday 24th July 9 pm – Poetry and Literature in Pisa

Carducci, Ugo Foscolo, Renato Fucini, Mary and P.B. Shelley, Elisabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, Virginia Wolf … walk among the places where they lived, of which they wrote and who were loved by writers from all over the world, in every century.

Between stories and short quotes we will see a Pisa with the eyes of poets and artists.

Saturday 25th July 6 p.m. The Lungarni di Mezzogiorno

Departure from the ‘old cathedral’ which deceives us with its nickname, having never been the cathedral of Pisa. We then continue in what was the district of Kinzica in the early Middle Ages, skirting the church of the Spina, the Palazzo Blu, and then we continue between the stories of Count Ugolino and those of other illustrious and curious characters who lived in the buildings overlooking the Lungarni Gambacorti and Galileo Galilei.

Sunday 26th July 10 a.m. The Lungarni di Tramontana

The Republican and then the Medici arsenals, the museum of ancient ships, the church of San Vito, and then the ‘Alla Giornata’ building, why does it have this curious name? We will then pass in front of the Aurea Gate, to the Agostini palace, and then continue to the Grassi-Boyl, Toscanelli and Roncioni palaces, among the most beautiful that overlook the Lungarno Mediceo.
